Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Adams State's Austria Holland and Corrie Williams are advancing to the second day of the NCWWC National Championship after battling through a grueling opening round.
Holland, competing in the 110-pound division, came out strong with a dominant 10-0 tech fall victory in just 2:02 over Emily Klein of East Stroudsburg University. She kept the momentum going, pinning RMAC rival Sophia Cornish of Colorado Mesa University in 5:41.
Her third match of the day pitted her against Ava Bayless of Iowa. Bayless gained an early advantage and secured the fall in just 32 seconds. Now in the consolation bracket, Holland will face Izabella Frezzo of New Jersey City University, with a win guaranteeing her All-American status.
Williams faced a tough start in her opening-round match, falling by tech fall to Alissa Caltagirone of Northern Michigan University in 4:36. Despite scoring two points, she was unable to close the gap, ultimately dropping the match 12-2. However, she bounced back in the consolation bracket with three consecutive victories—pinning Lili Ujfalvi of Gannon University in 4:48, securing a 12-2 tech fall over Athena Willden of William Jewell College in 4:24, and capping the day with a fall over Gianna Dibenedetto of Emmanuel University in 4:54.
