MANHEIM, Pa. – Six student-athletes from the Adams State women's wrestling team have been honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for their achievements in the classroom and on the mat. Bella Devoto, Katelyn Faczak, Austria Holland, Rylie McCabe, Brooke Newton Ochoa and Abbey Smith were all named 2025 NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
The NWCA Scholar All-America program recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate academic excellence while competing at a high level. To qualify, wrestlers must meet one of three criteria: earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division II National Championships with a minimum 3.0 GPA; qualify for nationals with at least a 3.25 GPA; or compete in four or more events while maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Devoto, a junior biology major, capped a strong season with a third-place finish at the RMAC Championships. Fazack and Newton Ochoa, both freshmen studying communication and biology, respectively, made immediate impacts in their debut seasons. Holland, a business administration major, made her second appearance at the Women's Wrestling National Championships and finished just one match shy of placing. Smith, a sophomore also majoring in business administration, posted a 3-11 record on the year. McCabe, a sophomore English major, finished the season at 2-12.
