DALLAS (NCBWA) — The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards today, recognizing Adams State Freshman DH Osaias Hinojosa as its National Hitter of the week. Hinojosa received the National recognition after receiving recognition from both the RMAC and South Central Region for Player of the Week. Hinojosa became the first Adams State Player to receive National recognition for Hitter of the Week.
Hinojosa received this recognition after powering the Grizzlies to a series split with Colorado School of Mines after finishing the four-game series batting .563(9-for-16) with five home runs and 18 RBIs. On top of the five home runs Hinojosa also recorded a double and walked three times to finish with a .632 on-base percentage and a 1.563 slugging percentage.
Hinojosa started the series against Colorado School of Mines going 1 for 4 with a two-run home run, following that up with two home runs and 5 RBIs in game two of the day one doubleheader. On day two in the final two games of the four-game series, Hinojosa helped carry the Grizzlies to a doubleheader sweep of the Orediggers finishing with six hits, a double, two home runs, and 20 RBIs. Hinojosa's biggest home run of the series was his fifth and final home run when he hit a 3-run shot to help carry the Grizzlies to a 9-7 win in the final game of the series. Overall, it was truly a special weekend for the Freshman Grizzly who will look to continue his hot hitting this upcoming weekend when the Grizzlies play their RMAC home opener against Colorado Christian University.
