Emporia, Kan. — Adams State completed Day 1 with a strong showing, advancing three athletes to finals and securing a third-place finish in the men's 10,000 meters.
The day began in the men's 1,500 meters. After surging to the front of the pack, Jack Gumm finished 19th in the preliminary round with a time of 3:51.60. Gabe Onelio, competing in his first NCAA Outdoor Championships, placed 20th in 3:51.98.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries, Housem Hrabi qualified for the final with a third-place finish in 8:53.91, winning Heat 1. Hrabi will compete in the final at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
David Millan recorded a personal best of 9:03.53 to finish 16th in the steeplechase.
On the women's side, Adams State advanced two athletes to the 3,000-meter steeplechase final. Marie Garret finished third overall in 10:27.03, while Haley Harkrider placed ninth in 10:35.12. Harkrider's season-best performance secured her spot in Friday's final at 7:30 p.m.
The men's 10,000 meters highlighted the day for the Grizzlies. Julian Campos, who entered the meet with the top time in the nation, placed third in 29:24.76 to earn All-American honors.
Juan Rosales finished 12th with a personal-best time of 30:02.52, earning second-team All-American recognition.
Adams State returns to competition for Day 2 beginning at 7:15 p.m.
