ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 12, 2015) —The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team returns to the confines of Plachy Hall to prepare for their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) scheduled games against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (Feb. 13) and Colorado State University-Pueblo (Feb. 14). Both games are scheduled from 5:30 tipoff times. Live stats, video, and audio will be made accessible for fans. Adams State returns to Alamosa in hopes of breaking their two game losing streak.
Last Time OutIn their last game, the Grizzlies dropped their RMAC road matchup against Western New Mexico University by a score of 65-56. Offensively the Grizzlies were led by
J'nae Squires-Horton and
Lena Jaycox Lena. Jaycox scored 19 points in the affair while Squires-Horton posted 16 points against the Cowgirls.
Meet the Mountain LionsThe last time these two teams squared off against each other was on Dec. 6, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colo. as the Grizzlies lost the matchup, 81-53.
Desiree Anderson netted 12 points and led the team with five steals. UCCS' bench proved to be a determining factor, as they compiled 33 points in the contest.
The Mountain Lions are currently receiving votes in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II National Poll. Head Coach Shawn Nelson has navigated his team to a 18-4 record, while standing 13-3 in conference play. Led by star players Abby Kirchoff and Brittany Hernandez, the Mountain Lions currently sit behind Colorado Mesa University for the top conference spot. The Mountain Lions are receiving 11 votes in the latest poll.
Meet the ThunderWolvesThe last time these two teams squared off was on Dec. 5, 2014 in Pueblo, Colo. Like UCCS, the ThunderWolves are also searching for a season sweep against Adams. The Grizzlies lost their RMAC opener against CSU-Pueblo by a score of 61-46. Entering half time however, the Grizzlies were trailing only 29-28.
CSU-Pueblo is currently 12-8 and 10-6 in conference play--good for third overall in the RMAC standings. They are 3-5 on the road compared to a 9-2 mark within the confines of Massari Arena. Offensively, the ThunderWolves are led by Ashley Piper and Dee Arrieta. Piper averages 12.6 points per game while Arrieta produces a healthy 11.0 points per game.
