SWIM | Grizzlies host Mavericks in Duel

ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 28th, 2016)—Earlier Friday, the Adams State University swim team hosted a duel that saw them compete against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rival, the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. The Mavericks finished the meet with 152 points, while Adams State finished with 50.

The first event of the day was the 200-yard medley relay. The Grizzlies' team was comprised of Marissa Mantzey (27.60), Anne Seaholm (35.65), Sophie Martinez (27.57), and Riley Ceglowski (26.49). The team finshed in 1:57.31.

Sydney Nelson and Madison Rincon got the individual events started, as they competed in the 1000-yard freestyle. Nelson finished third with a time of 11:32.01, while Rincon finished in fourth with a time of 11:59.92.

The 200-yard freestyle saw Martinez and Erin Henderson represent the Grizzlies. Martinez took fourth with a time of 2:09.32, while Henderson finished in fifth with her time of 2:13.86.

Mantzey was the lone Adams State swimmer in the 50-yard freestyle, where she finished in second with a final time of 24.61.

Dominique Tso and Ceglowski swam for the Green and White in the 400-yard individual medley. Tso finished in fourth (5:20.24), while Ceglowski finished in 5:50.08.

In the 100-yard butterfly, saw Martinez and Harley Ruiz compete for the Grizzlies, with Martinez finishing in second place at 1:03.69, and Ruiz finishing in fifth (1:15.98).

Henderson would be the lone Grizzly in the 100-yard freestyle, where she would go on to finish in fifth place with a time of 1:01.41.

Rincon and Seaholm would finish back-to-back in the 100-yard backstroke. Rincon would finish in second with her time of 1:07.11, and Seaholm would take third  (1:09.21)

Nelson and Tso would also go back-to-back in the 500-yard freestyle, with Nelson finishing in second (5:45.90), and Tso taking third (5:59.86).

Ceglowski and Seaholm would wrap up the individual events for the duel, as they competed in the 100-yard breaststroke. Ceglowski would take second place with her time of 1:17.23, and Seaholm would end up in third place with a time of 1:19.16.

The Adams State 200-yard freestyle relay team would take second in the final event of the meet. The team made up of Henderson (27.63), Rincon (27.10), Nelson (26.47), and Tso (27.10) would finish in a combined time of 1:48.86.

Up next for the Grizzly swim team is a meet at Colorado State University-Pueblo, as they take on the ThunderWolves. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
