PUEBLO (November 13th, 2016)— The Adams State University Grizzlies swim team traveled to Colorado State University-Pueblo yesterday to take on the ThunderWolves in a dual match up that saw the teams compete in sixteen events. CSUP narrowly defeated the Grizzlies with a final score of 103 to 98.
The meet opened with the 400-yard medley relay, where Adams State placed second with a combined time of 4:16.32.
Marissa Mantzey,
Anne Maree Seaholm,
Sophie Martinez, and
Riley Ceglowski comprised the team.
Sydney Nelson captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle with her final time of 11:26.09, which was 0.27 seconds faster than the second place time. The time posted at this meet was 0.32 seconds faster than her time posted at the ASU/CMU dual back on October 28
th.
Teammates
Sophie Martinez and
Harley Ruiz also competed in the 1000-yard free, where Martinez would swim to a time of 12:23.56, which would be good for third place, while Ruiz would finish in fifth with her time of 12:56.62.
Dominique Tso and
Erin Henderson would swim for the Grizzlies in the 200-yard freestyle, where Tso would narrowly edge our Henderson for second place with a time of 2:08.08. Henderson would take third just three seconds after with a time of 2:11.60, which was two seconds quicker than her time posted at the ASU/CMU dual.
Martinez and Ruiz would then compete in the 200-yard butterfly, where Martinez would finish in third with a time of 2:28.40, while Ruiz would take fourth with a time of 3:01.65.
Mantzey would take first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.65. Fellow Grizzly and newcomer to the swim team, Kaesha Harper made her debut in this event, where she swam a time of 1:01.51 to finish in third.
Madison Rincon, and Harper would compete in the 200-yard backstroke, where Rincon would take third place with a time of 2:22.05. Harper would finish in fifth place with a time of 2:49.27.
Ceglowski, and Seaholm would represent the Grizzlies in the 200-yard breaststroke, where Ceglowski would finish in second with her time of 2:47.51. This time was a second faster than the time she posted at the ASU/CMU dual.
Seaholm would take third right behind Ceglowski with her time of 2:48.69, which was two seconds faster than her time posted at the ASU/CMU dual.
The 500-yard freestyle saw Nelson, Tso, and Henderson all swim for Adams State, with Nelson finishing in second (5:39.43), Tso finishing in third (5:44.89), and Henderson finishing in fourth (5:57.03). Tso and Henderson both made improvements to their time, as both were about two seconds quicker than at the ASU/CMU dual.
Ricon would take first place in the 400-yard individual medley with her time of 5:09.80, which was a second faster than her time posted at the ASU/CMU dual. Seaholm would also swim in this event, where she would place third with her time of 5:26.04.
The final event of the day would see Nelson, Rincon, Henderson, and Tso all swim for the Grizzlies in the 800-yard freestyle relay, where they would finish in first place with a time of 8:40.92.
Adams State gets back in the pool on December 1
st, as they travel to Grand Junction to compete in the CMU A3 Invitational. The meet will be a three-day meet hosted by Colorado Mesa University.
