SWIM | Grizzlies take on Orediggers in Dual Meet
GOLDEN, Colo. (December 19th, 2016)-- Earlier Friday, the Adams State University Swim Team traveled to the Colorado School of Mines to compete in a dual meet, where Adams State wouldÂ
finish in second place with a total of 55 points. This meet was the last meet of the 2016 portion of the Grizzlies' season.Â
The meet opened up with the 8x25 Yard Medley Relay, where the Grizzlies finished in 1:11.42, to take second place. The host Orediggers finished in 1:04.52.Â
The women's 200 Yard Freestyle event saw
Sydney Nelson take fourth place with a time of 2:07.69, while teammates
Sophie Martinez, and
Dominique Tso finished in fifth and sixth place. Martinez swamÂ
a time of 2:08.30, while Tso finished in 2:10.05.
Anne Maree Seaholm finished in eight place with a time of 2:14.35.
The 50-yard Butterfly saw
Marissa Mantzey take third place with her time of 27.69. Teammates
Madison Rincon, Martinez, Kaesha Harper, and
Harley Ruiz also swam in this event, where Rincon finished inÂ
fifth (28.47), Martinez finished in sixth (29.55), Harper finished in eighth (31.05), and Ruiz finished in eighth (32.13).Â
Martinez would be the lone Grizzly in the 100 Yard Individual Medley, where she would finish in fifth spot with a time of 1:08.42.
The 50-yard Freestyle would see Mantzey take first place overall with a time of 24.80, which was almost a full second ahead of the second place time. Teammates Harper, Nelson, and Ruiz also competed in thisÂ
event, where Harper finished in fifth spot (27.49), Nelson finished in sixth spot (27.74), and Ruiz finished in eighth spot (28.09). Both Harper and Ruiz swam personal bests in this event, as Harper swam a 27.58 back on November 11th
against Colorado State University-Pueblo. Ruiz swam a 28.59 back on October 22nd at the Wayland Baptist Invitational.Â
Riley Ceglowski led the way for Adams State in the 50-yard backstroke, as she took fourth spot with her time of 35.78. Seaholm finished in fifth with a time of 36.27,
Erin Henderson finished in sixth (38.94), andÂ
Nelson finished in eighth (41.80).Â
Mantzey captured her second first place finish of the meet, as she won the 50-yard Backstroke with a time of 27.69. Mantzey's time was four seconds faster than teammate Tso, who finished in second place with her time
of 31.75. Seaholm finished in third place with her time of 32.02, and Rincon took fourth with her time of 32.15.Â
Ceglowski also finished with a first place finish, as she went on to win the 100-yard Freestyle with her time of 1:00.24. The Grizzlies would dominate this event, as Harper finished in second (1:00.50), Henderson took third
(1:01.21), Rincon finished in fourth (1:01.47), and Ruiz finished in fifth (1:02.34). Harper and Henderson swam personal bests at this meet, as Harper previously swam a time of 1:01.51 back on October 22nd, and Henderson swam a time of 1:01.41
back on October 28th, against Colorado Mesa University.Â
The final event of the dual was the 8x25 Yard Freestyle Relay, where the Grizzlies would once again finish in second to CSM,with a time of 1:02.76.Â
Adams State takes to the pool again on January 10th, as they host conference rivals, the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers at Plachy Hall Pool. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
