SWIM | Grizzlies Capture Pair of Wins in Nebraska

KEARNEY – The Adams State University's swim team defeated two squads in their road trip to Nebraska this weekend. On January 12th, they bested the College of Saint Mary's with a final score of 105-45, while on the 13th, they recorded another win of 125-49 versus University of Nebraska Kearney.

In their first match-up on Friday, Adams started the day with the 200 yard medley relay. Kendalyn Spurr, along with Megan Dudden, Riley Ceglowski, and Kayle Mashore combined with a final time of 1:59.73 to capture first place in event one.

Throughout the remainder of the competition, the Grizzlies dominated almost all of the individual events, only dropping the 200 yard freestyle to the Flames. In the 1000 yard freestyle, Paige McCaskill out-swam her opponent by 30 whole seconds, finishing with an 11:14.79 time.

The Grizzlies continued their winning ways by capturing both first and second place in the majority of their remaining events. Megan Dudden had the best showing of the day, recording two first place finishes. In the 200 yard IM, Dudden finished with a final time of 2:23.46. Later in the day, she recorded an impressive swim of 1:12.88 and another win in the 100 yard breaststroke.

In the final event of the meet, superstars Claudia Garcia, Riley Ceglowski, Gwynaedd Howdyshell, and Kayle Mashore combined for a time of 1:48.51 in the 200 yard freestyle relay. They out-swam the second place time from CSM of 1:52.09.

After the 105-45 win in Omaha, the Grizzlies traveled overnight to take on the Lopers of the University of Nebraska Kearney Saturday afternoon. In an interesting start to the day, Adams was disqualified during the 200 yard medley relay. Nebraska Kearney finished in first place, with a final time of 1:48.48.

Despite their start, the Grizzlies went on to dominate the remainder of the competition. Megan Dudden captured the first place finish over UNK with a final time of 2:10.95, beating the next closest time by only three seconds.

Madison Rincon and Kayle Mashore both tallied two first place finishes throughout the day. Rincon recorded a time of 1:04.98 in the 100 yard butterfly and a time of 1:07.10 in the 100 yard backstroke. Similarly, Mashore finished first in both the 100 yard breaststroke and 50 yard freestyle, with times of 1:13.04 and 26.78, respectively.

In the final event of their road trip, Garcia, Ceglowski, Howdyshell, and McCaskill swam tough in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing the relay and the meet with a final time of 1:46.76. Adams State left Kearney outscoring UNK 125-49.

The Grizzlies will make their way to Colorado Springs next weekend, January 20 and 21, to take on multiple RMAC teams in the Colorado College Classic, their final meet of the season.
