Grizzlies Drop Home Dual to Rival Mountaineers

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Swim team falls short to rival Western Colorado University 156-106 Saturday Nov. 10. At their final home meet, the Grizzlies honored their seniors Gwynaedd Howdyshell and Libby Weeks who have been a part of the Adams State Swim Program for four years.

The Grizzlies started off the meet with the 400-yard Medley Relay. Adams State took two stands on the podium with team of Kendalyn Spurr, Claudia Garcia, Megan Dudden and Kayle Mashore coming in second, and the team of Emily Walgast, Olivia Breames, Madison Rincon, and Avery Wilson coming in third.  Western Colorado took first.

The 1650-yard Freestyle, started as a close race. Mountaineers Sydney Skiles and Meagan Walker, took the top and third spots. Grizzly Paige McCaskill came in second, with a time of 19:50.57. Also having a good race, Emma-Joy Montana and Kendalyn Spurr came in second and third in the 200-yard Freestyle. Only having three swimmers in the nine-man 100-yard Backstroke event, Grizzlies Kayle Mashore finished in second with 1:04.62, with Emily Walgast right behind her in 1:04.76.

Claudia Garcia kept Adams in the race in the 100-yard Backstroke finishing third. In the 200 Fly, Pilar Aguirre finished in a close second in 2:23.25. Olivia Beams finished in third. In the seventh event, the 50 Free, Avery Wilson and Kayle Mashore took second and third .07 seconds away from each other.

Mashore got the Grizzlies their first win of the meet in the 100 yard Free. Mashore finished in 56.91. Mountaineer Caroline Katzmann finished in second, while Paige McCaskill finished in third. Megan Dudden took the second win of the meet for Adams State. She finished the 200-yard Backstroke in 2:33.43. Olivia Beames finished behind Dudden in 2:38.85. Jordan Richey of Western Colorado finished in third.

Taylor Jamison grabbed the third spot on the podium in the 500-yard Freestyle. Jamison finished in 5:57.17. Aguirre and Garcia had a very close race in the 100-yard Fly. Aguirre finished in second in 1:06.21, only .19 seconds behind Garcia in third. Dudden had another solid race in the 400-yard IM. Dudden finished in 5:06.18, taking second place. Madison Rincon grabbed the third spot in 5:17.26.

The 400-yard Freestyle Relay was the final event of the day. The Adams State team made up of Garcia, McCaskill, Wilson and Dudden finished in second in 3:35.60. The Grizzly team made up of Montana, Walker, Howdyshell, and Rincon took third in 4:03.00, almost three seconds infront of the fourth place Mountaineer team.

The Grizzlies will make their next splash on Nov 16-18 at the A3 Performance Invite in Grand Junction Colorado.
