ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State University Men's Soccer team will look to take advantage of their second consecutive home weekend, this time against visiting RMAC foes. The Grizzlies will be looking for their first overall victory of the season as well as their first conference victory.
After a weekend where the Grizzlies dropped two games, both by a one-goal deficit, there was plenty to build on and take into conference play moving forward. Solid and efficient play from veteran players such as Graduate-Senior
Brady Freehill combined with exciting offense from players
Benji Rogers and
Andree Salazar gives the Grizzlies optimism moving forward.
Perhaps the most interesting position battle to watch this weekend will be that of goalkeepers
Shawn Mckeeken and
Jacob Faircloth, who each saw playing time last weekend. While Mckeeken started the first three contests of the season, it was Faircloth who provided ferocious play in the box only allowing one goal in Saturday's game against Dallas Baptist, giving coach
Stan Rodrigues a tough decision as to who will play more moving forward.
Adams will face conference rivals CSU-Pueblo on Friday at 1 PM and Fort Lewis on Sunday at 3 PM at the Adams State Soccer Complex. Both enter the weekend with winning records.
Scouting the Thunderwolves
CSU-Pueblo comes into Friday's contest having won two straight after opening the season 1-1. Like Adams, this will be CSU-Pueblo's first conference game of the year, after a 2017 campaign that saw them finish a with a tumultuous record of 3-7-4 within the RMAC. The Thunderwolves' hot start can be credited to ruthless defensive performances, as well as stellar play from goalkeeper Tyler Harvey, who has only let in three goals, and has three shutouts in four games.
Scouting the Skyhawks
Fort Lewis will visit conference opponent Colorado Mesa in Durango on Friday before coming down to Alamosa to take on the Grizzlies. They come into the weekend with an undefeated record of 2-0-1 and will be looking to keep a clean slate. A fast offense that puts up an astounding average of 21 shots per game led by Bar Hazut and Ryan Lee will look to continue their hot start by getting after the Grizzlies early and often on Sunday.
