ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State University Men's Soccer team will be home for the third straight weekend this Friday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 23, to close out a six-game homestand. The Grizzlies will host South School of Mines and Technology and Colorado School of Mines at the ASU Soccer Field.
Opening Kick
Adams State will square off with the Hardrockers on Friday at 3 p.m., while the game against the Orediggers wil be Sunday with kickoff set for 12 p.m. Both games will be available for live stream for fans that cannot make the game as will live stats.
The Grizzlies enter the weekend with an overall record of 0-5-1, with a 0-1-1 mark in conference play. Despite not having a win on the 2018 season, Adams State has shown they can contend and run with RMACÂ teams. One thing the Grizzlies have relied on for the season is the combination of veteran presence and youth. Leading scorer
Andree Salazar has four points on two goals scored but has not played the last three games.
Also looking to help the Grizzlies offense is senior
Brady Freehill and sophomore
Benji Rogers. Both have three points on a goal scored and an assist, respectively. Rogers also has misse the last three games, but will hopefully be back this weekend along with Salazar. Freehill has played in all six games for Adams State. Defensively,
Nic Gindulis,
Logan Hopkins, and
David Schlesinger II all will look to continue anchoring the Adams State back line. Overall the Grizzlies are third in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in saves with 29.
Scouting the Hardrockers
The Hardrockers come into the weekend with an overall record 1-5-0 while standing 0-2-0 in RMAC play. One thing the 'Rockers will hope to have is their top scorer in Justin Barkow. He owns the program record for points in a single season. Barkow is coming off an ankle injury and will likely be back in the rotation this weekend. As a unit, South Dakota Mines has scored six goals and tallied two assists. Four of those goals have come from Ian Debois who is the leading scorer for the 'Rockers with eight points.Â
Defensively, South Dakota Mines has given up 14 goals in six games played. Three different goalies have seen action in net this year. Kyle Daledovich has seen the most action in net with five starts for a total of 454 minutes. He is 1-4-0 on the year, with 22 saves and one shutout. As a team, the 'Rockers are 11th in the RMAC standings right behind the Grizzlies at 10th.
Scouting the Orediggers
Colorado School of Mines comes into the weekend owning the top spot in the RMAC standings. The Orediggers are 2-0-0 in league play and have a 5-1-0 overall. Overall, Colorado Mines leads the RMAC in a number of offensive and defensive categories. The average 3.167 goals per contest and are No. 1 offensively in shots (114), goals scored (19), assists (17), and points (55). Defensively, the Orediggers have allowed just six goals which is second least in the RMAC.Â
John Haist leads the offensive charge not only for the Orediggers, but is one of the top offensive players in the RMAC. he has 14 points on the year with sox goals and two assists. He leads the league in shots (28) and points, while his six goals are second overall. Also helping the Orediggers top-ranked offense is Ben Overholt, Lucas King, and Matthew Summerfield. All three players have three goals and one assist for seven points, respectively. In net Drew Johnson has started in all six games for the Orediggers. He is 5-1 and has allowed just six goals. His three shutouts are tied for first in the league.

The Grizzlies will be on the road for their next four games as RMACÂ play continues. Their first game of the four-game road trip will be at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday, Sept. 28. Kickoff against the Mountain Lions is set for 6 p.m.
