PUEBLO, Colo. – Adams State Women's Swim goes 1-1 at the CSU-Pueblo Triangular in Pueblo, Colorado Saturday, Jan. 12. The Grizzlies had a solid showing at the meet, falling to CSU-Pueblo 199-88, but defeating Nebraska-Kearney 184-64. This is Adams State's first win of the season.
The Grizzlies started out their day strong, placing second in the 200 Medley Relay. Grizzly team of
Emily Walgast,
Olivia Beames,
Emma-Joy Montana, and
Claudia Garcia finished in 1:58.80, 0.5 seconds behind CSU-P relay team. This second-place finish gave the Grizzlies a great push of momentum carrying on throughout the day.
The meet continued with second place finishes from
Madison Rincon in the 1650 Freestyle, and
Megan Dudden in the 200 Free. In the 100 Backstroke, Grizzly's
Kendalyn Spurr and
Emily Walgast placed 2nd and 3rd behind CSU-P competitor.
Adams State received their first top finish in the 100 Breaststroke.
Olivia Beames took 1st in 1:13.64, and
Emma-Joy Montana stole 3rd with a 1:16.78 finish. The Grizzlies continued to take top three finishes throughout the day.
Libby Weeks took 3rd in the 200 Butterfly,
Claudia Garcia grabbed 2nd in the 50 Free, and Walgast finished 2nd in the 200 Backstroke.
The Grizzlies finished 3rd through 5th in the 100 Free with Dudden swimming in 58.97,
Gwynaedd Howdyshell in 59.26, and Spurr in 1:00.64. Adams State took the top two spots in the 200 Breaststroke. Dudden had a first-place finish in 2:35.91 and Beames took 2nd in 2:41.09.
Garcia and Howdyshell grabbed 3rd and 4th place finishes in the 500 Free.
Madison Rincon, Beames and Walgast finished 3rd, 4th and 5th in the 400 IM. Rincon finished in 5:15.53, Beames in 5:15.74, and Walgast in 5:18.66.
Adams State finished the day with the 200 Freestyle Relay, where the team of Montana,
Jacqueline Cisneros,
Landrie Durham, and Spurr completed the race in 1:50.69 getting them a second-place finish.
The Grizzlies will head to Colorado Springs to compete in the Colorado Classic Friday, Jan. 18 – Jan. 20.
