Grizzlies Set to Travel to Colorado Springs

ALAMSOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Swim team is set to compete at the Colorado Classic hosted by Colorado College this Friday, Jan. 18 - Sunday Jan. 20. The Grizzlies will travel to Colorado Springs to face some tough competition.

Last year the Grizzlies finished 6th out of 8 teams, one spot behind CSU-Pueblo, who will be seen again this year at the classic. The top three finishers last year were Colorado College taking first, Western Colorado University in second, and Colorado Mesa finishing in third. This year, both Western Colorado and Colorado Mesa will not be attending the Colorado Classic.

Adams State will be facing familiar RMAC competition, CSU-Pueblo. This will be the third time the Grizzlies have seen the Thunderwolves in competition this season. Adams State first saw CSU-Pueblo at the A3 competition in Grand Junction, Colorado, where the Thunderwolves finished only three points above the Grizzlies. They met again at the CSU-P Triangular last weekend, where CSU-Pueblo came out on top 184-64.

The Grizzlies are hoping to have a solid showing, like they did last year. At the Colorado Classic last year, Megan Dudden, Claudia Garcia, and Kayle Mashore led the Grizzlies withhad some great performances. Dudden finished 4th in the 100 Breast stroke, with Mashore placing 15th. Dudden also finished in 9th in the 200 IM. Garcia finished in 11th in the 50 Freestyle. In the 200 Backstroke, Emily Walgast placed 8th, Kendalyn Spurr placed 13th, and Madison Rincon finished 16th. Paige McCaskill placed 5th in the 500 Free, and Rincon finished in 14th.

Adams State also had great finishes in their relays. Team of Spurr, Dudden, Rincon and Garcia finished 6th in the 400 Medley Relay. In the 800 Freestyle Relay, team of Dudden, Sydney Nelson, McCaskill, and Mashore placed 5th. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Mashore, McCaskill, Riley Ceglowski, and Garcia finished 6th. The best relay finish for the Grizzlies was the 200 Medley with Spurr, Dudden, Ceglowski and Garcia placing 3rd.

The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Schlessman Natatorium. On both Saturday and Sunday the meet will begin at 9 a.m. The line up for the Grizzlies this weekend can be found below:
