GUNNISON, Colo. – Adams State Women's Swim finishes the Western Colorado University Trifecta 1-1. The Grizzlies defeated the University of Nebraska-Kearney 129-71, and fell to Western Colorado 151-53.
The Grizzlies had a great start to the day winning their first race, the 200 Medley Relay. Team of
Kendalyn Spurr, Oliva Beames,
Megan Dudden and
Claudia Garcia finished the race in 1:58.54, nearly two seconds ahead of UNK relay team.
Madison Rincon received her first top finish of the year in the 1000 Freestyle. She completed her 20 laps in 11:53.53.
Gwynaedd Howdyshell also had a good race finishing in 4th. Spurr also had a 4th place finish in the 200 Free.
The day continued with the 50 Free, where
Avery Wilson and
Emily Walgast finished the race in 5th and 7th. In the 200 IM, Jacqueline Ciseneros and
Pilar Aguirre finished in 6th and 7th.
The Grizzlies began climbing back up the rankings in the 100 Freestyle. Rincon finished in 4th in 59:40 and Spurr finished 5th in 1:01.26.
Emma-Joy Montana finished the 100 Backstroke in 4th place 1:07.04, 0.17 seconds ahead of 5th place Western Colorado swimmer.
The 500 Freestyle was a great race for the Grizzlies. Dudden finished 2nd, Garcia in 4th,
Taylor Jamison finished 5th, and
Libby Weeks finished 7th. Walgast finished the 100 Breaststroke in 3rd place, only 0.17 seconds away from the second-place finisher from Western State.
The Grizzlies closed the day with second and third place finishes in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Team of Garcia, Dudden, Montana, and Howdyshell took 2nd, and team of Wilson, Rincon, Beames, and
Landrie Durham finished in 3rd.
The Grizzlies finished 2-5 in overall in regular competition for the 2018-2019 season. Adams State will head to Lewisville, Texas Feb. 13 – 16 for the RMAC Championships.
