Grizzlies Compete Through Quadrangular Opposition

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Adams State Swim teams hopped in to some quadrangular competition this Saturday, Oct. 19 at CSU-Pueblo. Adams State Men's Swim squared off against Colorado College, with the Tigers winning 218-46. The Women battled against Western Colorado, CSU-Pueblo, and Colorado College.
 
Adams State fell 193-67 against the Mountaineers, 181-90 verses the Thunderwolves, and 173-100 to the Tigers. The Grizzlies had a tough day points wise, but show promise for the upcoming season.
 
The Grizzlies day started with the 200 Medley Relay. Adams State took second in the race with the team of Emily Walgast, Olivia Beames, Megan Dudden, and Davin Ruggles. The Grizzlies had a second team in the heat, made up of Leila, Atumah, Natasha Murphy, Madison Rincon, and Hannah Zimmer who finished in 6th. The Men were then up next in the 200 Medley Relay, where they finished 4th with a team of Nolan Palmer, Ethan Cohen, Justin Sandoval, and Ethan Trotter.
 
The meet continued on with the Women's 200 Free, where Dana McMurtrey finished in 8th with a 2:07.54 and Rincon finishing right behind her in 2:07.57. Palmer swam for the men, finishing his 200 Free in 2:02.08.
 
As the day progressed, Adams State had more quality heats. Gilbert Beaton finished 3 in the 200 IM just over a second behind his 2nd place competitor. Claudia Garcia took a 5th place finish in the 50 Free in 25.92 seconds. Dudden took a 2nd place finish in the 50 Breaststroke with a 33.05 time. Murphy finished behind Dudden in 5, with a 33.89 time.
 
The Grizzlies also had a 2nd place finish on the men's side of the 50 Breaststroke from Cohen. Dudden took another 2nd place finish in the 100 Fly in 1:01.39. Adding more to Adams State 2 place finishes is Sandoval in the 100 Fly in 57.71.
 
Adams State got their first top finishes, both from Beaton. He took his first top finish in the 500 Free, clocking in at 5:16.42. Beaton also finished 1 in the 100 Breaststroke, finishing in 1:02.74, just over four seconds faster than Colorado College's second place finisher.
 
The Grizzlies will be in Alamosa next weekend to take on Colorado Mesa Friday, Oct. 25 and Colorado School of Mines Saturday, Oct. 26.
