Recently in ASU Soccer:
The Grizzlies (0-5-1, 0-3-1 RMAC) have played competitively all season, recently holding nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines to a single goal until losing a powerful weapon to a red card late in the second half of the matchup. The Grizzlies look to rebound this weekend with the home field advantage. Adams State is led by an aggressive offensive front including senior defender
Abdoulie Danso, leading the team in points and shots on goal. Greyson Gilman and
Jarrett Shrum are also apart of the wrecking crew and look to lead the Grizzlies to their first wins at home this weekend.
About Regis:
The Rangers come to Adams State looking to end a two-game losing streak after falling in back to back matches against RMAC foes, Dixie State and Westminister College. Regis sits at no. 6 in the RMAC at (3-4-1, 2-2 RMAC) and lean on junior forward, Parker Klein and sophomore midfielder Ben Shepherd. The two also sit in the top ten for individual shots-on-goal in the RMAC.
Last Meeting:
The Rangers and the Grizzlies last faced off around the same time last year. Adams State was still looking for their first win on a rapid paced 2018 season, heading into the matchup 0-11-2. Both goalkeepers on opposite ends were pushed to their limits, Chase Webert of Regis made five saves and gave up none to shutout the Grizzlies 0-2. On the other end,
Jacob Faircloth of Adams State had four saves and let two slip past late in the game. Nico Denton and Eric Peter, returning as juniors for the 2019 season, were on the goals.
About UC Colorado Springs:
The Mountain Lions come to Alamosa looking for their first conference win. After edging out a powerful St. Mary's team in their second game of the season, UC Colo. Springs would fall in four consecutive conference games. The Mountain Lions stand behind a trio of offensive phenoms with Alex VonHolle leading the pack. VonHolle leads the RMAC in shots and sits in the top ten for shots on goal. Following him are redshirt-freshman, Liam McGuire and senior midfielder, Samuel Gomez.
Last Meeting:
It was a chilled afternoon in Alamosa last October when these two teams last squared off. Both defenses on their respected ends dominated the matchup, making it only a one score game and unfortunately led to the 2018 Grizzlies eighth loss in conference play.
Both teams nearly reached a scoreless first half, each goalkeeper would have outstanding performances by not allowing a single goal until just 25 seconds before halftime. Mario Mandel of UC Colo. Springs would fire a penalty kick to put the Grizzlies down before the second half. This shot would later prove to be enough to lead the Mountain Lions to another conference victory.
Upcoming:
The Grizzlies will stay at home to take on Colorado Christian and MSU Denver for week four of conference play.
