ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team is set to challenge Fort Lewis College in their final game of the regular season. Adams State is moving in to their final weekend 8-18 overall and 5-12 in RMAC.
The Grizzlies are coming off of a big win against New Mexico Highlands, where they beat the Cowgirls in five sets. Adams State came out and dominated the second and third sets while celebrating their senior night.
Shannon Mulkey led the Grizzlies with 14 kills and 4 blocks.
Scouting the Skyhawks
The Fort Lewis Skyhawks (10-16, 6-11 RMAC) are having a very similar season to the Grizzlies as they have won and lost to many of the same teams. The Skyhawks are coming out of a split weekend, coming out on top against New Mexico Highlands, 3-1, and falling 3-0 to CSU-Pueblo. Leading the Skyhawks attack are Bailey Longacre, with 244 kills, Ohiyah Shirly with 169 kills, and Alexa Tregubuff with 144 kills. Assisting the Fort Lewis attack is Payton Harmann tallying 708 assists. Harmann is ranked fifth in the RMAC in assists.
In their last match up, Fort Lewis came out defeating the Grizzlies 3-2 in Durango, Colo. Going head to head historically, Adams State and Fort Lewis are tied 13-13. In their most recent match in October, the two teams played five very close sets. The Grizzlies came out on top 25-20 in the first set, then fell 21-25 and 19-25 in the second and third. Adams State bounced back in the fourth, finishing 25-17. The Skyhawks finished the match 15-10.
Leading the Grizzlies in the attack are
Hannah Goddard, with 217 kills, and
Shannon Mulkey with 192 kills. Assisting the attack and ranked 10 in the RMAC is
Bailey Schlosser with her 486 assists. Also leading the RMAC rankings are
Mackenzie Swanson and
Maya Waddington. Swanson is ranked 4th with a .39 average service aces and Waddington in 9th with a .33 average. Swanson and Goddard are leading the defense with Swanson tallying 288 digs, and Goddard with 256.
Service is set to start at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 in Plachy Hall.
