PUEBLO, Colo.— The Adams State University women's swimming team traveled to Pueblo where they competed in a season-opening Tri Meet with CSU-Pueblo and Western Colorado University. The Grizzlies fell in both of their duals. The host ThunderWolves defeated the Grizzlies 167-97 while the Mountaineers defeated the Grizzlies 189-64.
The Grizzles had one event win as
Megan Dudden and
Davin Ruggles went 1-2 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Dudden won the event in 1:13.10, just edging out Ruggles who had a time of 1:13.47.
Jordan Davila finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:23.03 while
Jacqueline Cisneros finished in 11th place with a time of 1:24.00
Adams State earned four points on the day from the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Olivia Beames, Natasha Murphy, Dudden and
Claudia Garcia finished in a time of 1:56.03, less than three-tenths of a second behind the CSU-Pueblo team that won and scored 11 points. The team of
Hannah Zimmer,
Anna Deck,
Kyler James and
Dana McMurtrey finished in a time of 2:02.40 while the team of
Katy Heldstab, Davila,
Pilar Aguirre and
Morgan Pierce posted a time of 2:10.09.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Ruggles finished third in the event with a time of 2:06.25 to earn three team points. Zimmer finished the race in 2:15.04 to finish in ninth place.
Dudden scored three points in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.35. Beames finished in 2:25.55 while Davila finished in 2:46.29.
Garcia scored a point in the 50-yard freestyle as she posted a time of 26.20. James finished in 27.20 to take ninth place while Aguirre finished in 28.56 and Cisneros finished in 29.65.
Beams finished fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke as she posted a time of 34.74, while Deck and Davila finished with respective times of 35.82 and 38.58.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Ruggles was the top Grizzly as she finished in 58.22 to place fourth. McMurtrey finished in ninth in the event with a time of 59.30 while
Hanah Terrell finished in 1:02.55 and
Rachel Rudisill finished in 1:22.96.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Murphy finished third in the event as she posted a time of 1:05.09 while Aguirre finished in eighth with a time of 1:10.33.
Garcia finished in seventh in the 500-yard freestyle as she completed the ten lengths of the pool in 5:55.51. Zimmer and Pierce finished ninth and tenth with times of 6:20.00 and 6:39.59, respectively.
McMurtrey was the top Grizzly to finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.41 to finish in sixth while Beames (1:08.75) and James (1:09.63) finished in seventh and eighth, respectively.
Murphy finished in third place in the 50-yard butterfly as she posted a time of 29.35 and Heldstab finished in eighth with a time of 30.98 and Terrell posted a time of 31.84 to finish in 11th. Pierce (34.68) and Rudisill (41.57) rounded out the event for the Grizzlies.
The ASU team of Garcia, Dudden, Ruggles and Murphy finished in third place in the 200-yard freestyle as with a time of 1:45.99 while the squad comprised of McMurtey, Deck, Zimmer and James finished in 1:50.18. Terrell, Heldstab, Cisneros and Aguirre finished in seventh place with a time of 1:54.51.
Deck was the lone Grizzly to tackle the 1,00-yard freestyle as she made her 20 lengths across the pool in 11:59.93.
Adams State's men and women will be back in action on Nov. 19-21 when they travel to Grand Junction for the A3 Performance Invitational. The men will make their season debut during the event.
