SWIM | First meet of the season on tap for Men’s and Women’s Swim

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies are looking forward to their first meet of the year on Saturday, September 25th. Both men's and women's swimming teams are heading to the University of New Mexico for a relay meet.

The Grizzlies have been preparing in unfortunate circumstances. The pool at Adams State has currently been 69 degrees due to construction inside Plachy Hall. However, the freezing pool did not stop the Grizzlies from holding their Green vs White scrimmage this past weekend.

"The adrenaline from the first race carried all the way to the last," Head Coach Edward Ortiz Jr. said. "Green did get the win by one point, but with the rematch in January, I think it will be a different outcome. For the Green team Katy Rose Heldstab, Davin Ruggles and Kaycey Stephens were tough mentally swimming back to back evens throughout the meet when they could have easily scratched and not swam their races since it was an inner-squad bragging rights only meet."

The Grizzlies have shown some great mental and physical toughness going into their first meet this weekend. Hopefully, hey will have what it takes to pull away with a win.

"I'm really excited how everyone is becoming mentally strong," Ortiz said. "We still have a lot of work to do physically, but it's only September, can't wait to go give updates in February! We light it up wit UNM Saturday in a fun-relays only meet."

Up next, the Grizzlies travel to Grand Junction, Colorado on Friday, October 1st 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 2nd.
