GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Austria Holland continues to shine for the Grizzlies as she was the lone Grizzly to score a team point on Friday night as the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks defeated the Adams State University women's wrestling team 44-4 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action on Friday night.
The Mavericks were gifted 20 team points as they claimed forfeits at 109 pounds, 136 pounds, 170 pounds and 191 pounds.
The first wrestled match saw
Candice Brickell fall at 109 pounds with a 10-0 technical fall in 2:30 before Holland retaliated with a 10-0 technical fall at 116 pounds. The technical fall came faster at 1:42.
Rylie McCabe was pinned in 58 seconds at 123 pounds,
Brianna Johnson was pinned in 2:21 in 130 pounds, Liana Fernandez was pinned in 2:57 at 143 pounds and
Miranda Sanchez was pinned in 20 seconds.
Adams State falls to 1-8 on the season and 0-4 in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies now turn to Regis University's Regis Field House in Denver, Colo., as it hosts the much-anticipated inaugural 2024 RMAC Women's Wrestling Championship on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Spectator tickets are now available on the official RMAC Women's Wrestling Championship website; tickets will also be available at the door. The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. MT, inviting family, friends and fans to immerse themselves in the electric atmosphere of the 2024 RMAC Women's Wrestling Championship.
Participating student-athletes will kick off their day at 6:45 a.m. MT with skin and medical checks. At 7:00 a.m. MT, the competitors for the RMAC event will weigh-in, swiftly followed by weigh-ins for the USA Wrestling's competitions at 7:30 a.m. MT. The opening matches of the 2024 RMAC Women's Wrestling Championship are scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m. MT, promising a day filled with fierce competition and athletic prowess.
