HASTINGS, Neb. – The women's wrestling team of Adams State University were at the 2024 Bronco Women's Open on Sunday afternoon, with four athletes securing podium placements.
Austria Holland clinched the 116-pound title with three falls. Accumulating a total on-mat time of 7:04, she secured the crown by triumphing over Flavia Nagatani of Iowa Western Community College with a decisive 2:07 match.
Julianna Canelaria earned a second-place finish, triumphing in her first two matches with falls. However, she yielded the title to Daityn Woods of Ottawa University, who secured a 10-0 tech fall.
Trinity Perez also earned a second-place finish with a 3-1 record. She conceded the title match at 130 pounds to Larissa Kaz of Hastings.
Candace Brickell finished with a fifth place at 109 pounds. Despite a setback in her opening match, Brickell demonstrated resilience by rebounding in the consolation side of the bracket, ultimately reaching the placing matches.
In addition to the aforementioned placers, other Adams State athletes that competed in the open included Marisa Rimbert, at 136 pounds, went 0-2, while Liana Fernandez and Madison Sego, both competing at 143 pounds, also faced tough challenges, each concluding with a 0-2 record.
The Grizzlies have one remaining regular-season challenge ahead, slated to travel to Grand Junction on Saturday, January 27th, for a highly anticipated Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) dual against Colorado Mesa.
