Hays, Kan. – Adams State fell to Fort Hays State in its first dual of the year, 39-11, on Saturday night.
The Grizzlies won just two of nine matches, with three wrestlers contributing points. At 138 pounds, Corrie Williams, a junior from Enterprise, Utah, secured a fall in 4:03 against Nichole Moore.
Brook Newton Ochoa, a freshman from Coolidge, Arizona, earned a fall at 1:38 over Ciara Monger in the 207-pound match.
Brisa Salas, a junior from Patterson, California, scored Adams State's remaining point in a 12-2 technical fall loss to Jamie Laswell at 131 pounds.
Fort Hays State's victories included forfeits at 103 and 117 pounds, as well as one technical fall and five falls across the dual.
Adams State will compete again Sunday at the Bob Smith Open, hosted by Fort Hays State, starting at 9 a.m.
