Hays, Kan. – The Adams State Grizzlies had four wrestlers place at the Bob Smith Women's Open on Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a second-place finish, a fourth-place finish, and two sixth-place finishes.
Corrie Williams led the way for Adams State, finishing second in the 138-pound bracket. Williams fell by decision in the championship match to Nichole Moore of Fort Hays State, 2-2, on criteria. She started the day with two technical falls before earning a decision over Ashlynn Goodwin of Fort Hays State to advance to the final.
Brook Newton secured fourth place in the 207-pound bracket. After receiving a bye in the first round, Newton lost in the second round to Grace Johns of Fort Hays State. She battled back with a fall in 1:25 in the third round but ultimately lost by fall in the third-place match.
Katelyn Faczak took sixth place in the 110-pound bracket. After a bye, Faczak lost by technical fall in her opening match. On the consolation side of the bracket, she wrestled back with two technical falls before falling by technical fall and pin in her final matches to finish sixth.
Bella Devato competed in the 124-pound bracket for the Grizzlies. She lost by technical fall in the first round but rebounded with a pin and two technical falls in the consolation rounds before falling in her final two matches.
The Grizzlies will travel to Chadron, Neb., next week to face Texas Woman's University in a dual on Friday night. They will then compete in the Chadron Open on Saturday morning.
