Chadron, Neb. – The Grizzlies narrowly lost to Texas Woman's University by criteria, 22-22, on Friday afternoon. Despite a strong showing, including a pin by Brisa Salas and four technical falls, forfeiting two weight classes ultimately tipped the scales against Adams State.
Katelyn Fazcak opened the dual in dominant fashion, competing in the 110-pound weight class. She defeated Victoria Pena by technical fall, 10-0, in just 1:31. Austria Holland followed up at 117 pounds, securing another technical fall with an 11-0 victory over Mackenzie Peterson in only 51 seconds.
At 124 pounds, Bella Devoto kept the momentum alive, defeating Inergee Donald by technical fall, 10-0, in 3:40. Brisa Salas, a junior from Patterson, Calif., delivered the highlight of the dual at 131 pounds, pinning Livier Dubon in 4:05.
Corrie Williams added the final technical fall victory for the Grizzlies at 138 pounds, defeating Cora-Yvette Carr, 10-0, in 1:11.
In the final bout of the dual, heavyweight wrestler Brook Newton lost a hard-fought decision, 4-1, to Jaycee Portee, sealing the criteria loss for the Grizzlies.
