Chadron, Neb. — The Chadron State Open presented a tough challenge for Adams State wrestlers, who delivered hard-fought performances despite the stiff competition. Here's a recap of their notable results:
Austria Holland and Corrie Williams led the way for the Grizzlies, each earning second-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Holland, competing at 117 pounds, recorded a technical fall and a pin before falling in the final by decision, 4-0, to Maddie Mackenzie of Simon Fraser. Williams, wrestling at 138 pounds, racked up a pin and two technical falls but was ultimately pinned in the championship match by Jade Trolland, also of Simon Fraser.
Bella Devato and Brisa Salas each secured fourth-place finishes. Devato, wrestling at 124 pounds, dropped her opening match by decision, 8-0, but fought her way through the consolation bracket with two pins before losing the third-place match by technical fall, 10-0, to Thalia Vogelsang of Colorado Mesa. Salas, competing at 131 pounds, opened with an 18-10 decision victory before being pinned in the second round. She battled back with two technical falls and a pin before falling in the third-place match by technical fall to Brooke Zejada of Texas Woman's.
In the heavyweight division, Brook Newton finished fifth. Newton won her opening match in a thrilling 14-11 decision but dropped her next two rounds. She rebounded in the fifth-place match with a dominant technical fall, 14-2, over Hannah Sjostrom of the University of Jamestown.
Adams State wrestlers showcased grit and determination throughout the tournament, earning hard-fought victories while gaining valuable experience to prepare for the Desert Duals, on December 21, in Las Vegas.
