PUEBLO, Colo. – Adams State's
Keona Weirick led the Grizzlies at The Southern Colorado Open at Walking Stick Golf Course March 24. Tournament officials consolidated the event into one day because of poor weather.
The sophomore from Cedar Crest, N.M., fired two rounds of 13-over 85. She was seven shots ahead of
Alexis Ortega, a senior from Alamosa. Ortega carded an 86-91 – 177.
Stephanie Framel, a sophomore from Kit Carson, finished with a 99-97 – 196.
Kailyn Vigil, a freshman from Alamosa, finished up with a pair of 112s for her tournament, and
Anastasia Sanchez, a freshman from Alamosa, finished with rounds of 124 and 130.
As a team, the Grizzlies finished 12th in the standings. The host ThunderWolves won the tournament by shooting even par over the two rounds. Simon Fraser University took second place, 10 shots behind CSU-Pueblo. Western New Mexico was third, five shots behind Simon Fraser.
The Grizzlies head for Rapid City, S.D., for the two-day, Hardrocker Spring Invitational at the Arrowhead Social Club. The first round is set for Monday, April 8.
