CANYON, Texas — In their third and final tournament of the fall season the Adams State Women's Golf team competes at the West Texas Fall Invitational in which they finished in 15th place. The women finished three rounds of golf at the Tascosa Golf Course with a gross score of +235.
During the two-day event at the Tascosa Golf Course the Grizzlies played 3 rounds of golf with Taylor Butler, Naomi Smith, Keona Weirick, Isabel Galloway, and Anastasia Sanchez all competing for the Grizzlies.
During round 1, the Grizzlies shot a gross score of +75, with Taylor Butler leading the way with the Grizzlies with a score of +14. Following Butler was Naomi Smith, who shot a +16, Keona Weirick with a +17, and Isabel Galloway with a +28. On the day, the Grizzlies were able to collect 6 total birdies between all four women, with Butler and Galloway leading the charge with 2 birdies apiece. Smith and Weirick were also each able to collect 1 birdie over the course of their 18 holes of Golf in Round 1.
In round 2, the Grizzlies showed a huge improvement from round 1 by lowering their gross score by 11 strokes, giving them an overall gross score of +64 in round 2. Making the huge leap for the Grizzlies was Naomi Smith, who improved her individual score by 9 strokes, giving her a score of +7 in round 2. During Smith's great second round, she recorded a total of 4 birdies and 7 pars. Smith's 4 birdies led the Grizzlies, who recorded a total of 6 birdies during round 2. Following Smith's great performance in round 2 was Weirick with a score of +13, which was 4 strokes better than her first round. After Weirick was Butler, who shot a +15 along with recording the Grizzlies' other 2 birdies, and Anastasia Sanchez, who shot a +29 in round 2.
Concluding the two-day event with Round 3, the Grizzlies finished with a final gross score of +96 in their final round. Leading the way for the Grizzlies in their final round was Keona Weirick, who had her best round of the tournament with a score of +11. Weirick's final round was her best round by 2 strokes and allowed her to finish with an overall gross score of +41 for the tournament, which led the Grizzlies. In her final round, Weirick was able to record 2 birdies and 6 pars on the round. Following Weirick in round 3 was Butler, who recorded a score of +18, Smith with a score of +21, and Sanchez with a score of +46. Overall, the Grizzlies recorded 3 birdies on the day, with the 2 from Weirick and 1 other birdie by Butler, who was able to record a birdie in all three rounds during the two-day event.
Overall for the Grizzlies they finished with an overall gross score of +235 which was led by Weirick's +41 and followed by Smith who finished with a score of +44, Butler with a score of +47 and Sanchez with a score of +105. In the final standings individually Weirick finished in 76th, Smith finished in 78th, Butler finished in 79th and Sanchez finished in 81st.
Looking forward to the Grizzlies, this was their final fall tournament before they break for the end of fall and winter, then get going again in late spring. The Grizzlies will aim to build on the three events they participated in this fall and develop into a team that can compete with their fellow RMAC opponents when spring golf begins again.
