PUEBLO, Colorado — In a two day event, the Adams State Women's Golf team competed at the 2026 Southern Colorado Open. The event was a battle between 15 different schools with CSU Pueblo winning the two day event and the Grizzlies finishing in fifteenth place. Adams State finished with a final score of +167 after the two day event.
Diving into the five golfers who competed for the Grizzlies, they were led by Keona Weirick, Naomi Smith, Taylor Butler, Kailyn Vigil, and Kiera Sanchez. Weirick finished with a score of +30; Smith finished with a score of +31; Butler finished with a score of +41; Vigil finished with a score of +69; and Sanchez finished with a final score of +75.
On day 1 of the event Smith finished the day with the best for the Grizzlies as she shot a +15. Following Smith was Weirick with a +17 score, Butler with a +23, and Vigil with a +28. On day 2 of the event, Weirick led the way for the Grizzlies with a score of +13. Smith then followed with a score of +16, while Butler finished with a +18, and Sanchez finished with a +37.
Individually Weirick had the best finish for the Grizzlies as she finished in 75th. Smith followed close behind finishing in 77th while Butler finished in 82nd, Vigil in 83rd, and Sanchez 84th rounding out the five women who competed the last two days.
For the Grizzlies, they will continue their spring season with their next event coming in a couple of weeks at the Maverick Open in Grand Junction, Colorado. The event will again be a two day event, starting April 11th and finishing on the 12th. The Grizzlies will look to build off the Southern Colorado Open and before at their best in Grand Junction at the Maverick Open which will be their final event before the RMAC Championships at the end of April.
