SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — In the two-day Westminster Wasatch Invitational hosted by Westminster University, the Grizzlies placed eleventh with a final gross score of +133. On Day 1, the Grizzlies had a gross score of +63, and on Day 2, they finished with a gross score of +70. The event was a competition between eleven total teams, including six RMAC teams, which included Westminster, MSU Denver, Fort Lewis, Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa, and the Grizzlies. At the end of the two-day event, Westminster was able to come out on top with a final gross score of +34.
Day 1
On Day 1 of the Westminster Wasatch Invitational, the Grizzlies finished with a final gross score of +63 on the day. The Grizzlies were led by Keona Weirick, who shot a +7 on day one for a final score of 79 on the round. During her round, Weirick collected 12 pars on the day, leading the way for the Grizzlies. The three other Grizzlies to record scores on the day were Taylor Butler, Naomi Smith, and Isabel Galloway. On Day 1, Butler shot a +13 for a final score of 85; Smith shot a +21 for a final score of 93; and Isabel Galloway shot a +22 for a final score of 94. On the day, the Grizzlies were only able to secure one birdie, which was recorded by Taylor Butler on hole 15 on the back 9 of the course.
Day 2
On Day 2, the Grizzlies finished with a gross score of +70 on the day to give them a final overall gross score of +133. Leading the way for the Grizzlies was again Keona Weirick, who shot a +11 for a final overall score of 83 on the day. Weirick's +11 on Day 2 put her at +18 at the conclusion of the two-day event, which led the Grizzlies during the event. Finishing with the second-best score for the Grizzlies on Day 2 was again Taylor Butler, who shot a +15 for a final score of 87 on Day 2. +15 on Day 2 gave Butler a final gross score of +28 after the two-day event in Utah. The two other individuals to record scores on Day 2 were Kailyn Vigil, who shot a +21, and Isabel Galloway, who shot a +23. For the event, Vigil shot a +49; Galloway shot a +45; and Smith shot a +49.
After the conclusion of the two-day event in Utah, the Grizzlies finished 57 strokes behind Vanguard, which finished in tenth place for the event. Winning the event was Westminster, who hosted the event with a final gross score of +34, winning the event by 1 stroke over Westmont, who shot a +35 on the event.
Looking Forward
The Grizzlies' next event will be the Nick Turner Invitational, which will be held by Fort Lewis in Durango, Colorado. The event will again be a two-day event, with the event beginning on Monday, October 6th, and finishing on Tuesday, October 7th. The event in Durango will be a great opportunity for the Grizzlies to bounce back from this event as they look to continue to grow as a team and compete as the season rolls on.
