Burnaby, B.C. – The Adams State Grizzlies faced off against the Simon Fraser University Red Leafs in an intense women's wrestling dual north of the border. Despite battling hard in every weight class, the Grizzlies fell 31-9 to a strong Simon Fraser team.

The dual opened at 110 pounds, where Austria Holland got the Grizzlies off to a solid start with an impressive 8-2 decision victory over Kelsey Loeun. Holland controlled the match from the outset, earning the first points of the night for Adams State.
At 117 pounds, Simon Fraser's Maddie Mackenzie proved to be a tough opponent for Rylie McCabe. Mackenzie came out aggressive and earned a technical fall in 1:12.
The 124-pound matchup featured a hard-fought effort by Adams State's Bella Devoto against Simon Fraser's Madysn Grof. Devoto stayed competitive throughout the match but narrowly lost by a 5-2 decision.
At 131 pounds, Adams State's Abril Montes faced a tough challenge in Ella Finding, who secured a technical fall in 33 seconds.
The Grizzlies got back on track at 138 pounds when Corrie Williams electrified the mat with a huge pinfall victory over number 4 ranked Jade Trolland at 2:59. Williams' win added 5 points to the Grizzlies' team score and highlighted her strong offensive skill set.
At 145 pounds, Brisa Salas wrestled hard but was caught early by Amelia Lucas, who earned a pinfall victory for Simon Fraser in just 42 seconds.
The 160-pound bout featured Abby Smith taking on Lene McCrackin. Smith fought with determination but ultimately fell by pinfall at 1:43.
At 180 pounds, Adams State's Abigail Wold squared off against Paige Maher in a fast-paced match. Wold stayed active but couldn't find her rhythm against Maher, who won by technical fall in just 42 seconds.
The final bout at 207 pounds saw Adams State's Brook Newton battle Simon Fraser's Julia Richey. Newton was defeated by pinfall at 28 seconds.

Despite the final score, the Grizzlies displayed moments of strength and resilience, with standout performances from Austria Holland and Corrie Williams. Adams State will regroup and focus on their next opportunity to get back in the win column taking place Saturday January 25th as they head to Colorado Mesa for a dual at 4pm.
