Marshall, Mo. – Four Adams State women's wrestlers are moving on to Day 2 at the Missouri Valley Open.
Wrestling at 145 pounds, Angella Van Valkenburg advanced to Consolation Round 5 after opening her day with a fall and a tech fall in Rounds 1 and 2. She dropped her Round 3 match by tech fall to Iowa's Reese Larramendy but responded on the backside of the bracket with another tech fall to keep her Day 2 run alive.
At 117 pounds, Flavia Nagatani is also moving on after securing three straight falls to open her tournament. She shifted to the consolation side following a loss by forfeit but remains in contention heading into Saturday.
At 103 pounds, Mia Siqueiros opened her tournament with a tech fall before dropping her Round 2 match by decision. She bounced back on the consolation side with another tech fall, securing her spot in Day 2.
Taina Uasike is the final Grizzly advancing, competing at 207 pounds. She earned a tech fall in Round 1 and a fall in Round 2 before falling by tech fall in Round 3. Uasike will continue her run in Consolation Round 6 on Saturday.
The Grizzlies return to action tomorrow for Day 2 of the Missouri Valley Open.
