Hays, Kan. – The Adams State Grizzlies women's wrestling team placed six athletes at the Bob Smith Open on Saturday, highlighted by a runner-up finish from
Katelyn Faczak and top three performances from
Mia Siqueiros and
Angella Van Valkenburg.
Competing at 110 pounds,
Katelyn Faczak cruised into the championship match with three dominant first-period tech falls over opponents from Tarleton State, Trinidad State and Chadron State. She ultimately fell in the final to Oklahoma City University's Alexis Miller.
Wrestling at 103 pounds,
Mia Siqueiros received a first-round bye before dropping her second-round match and moving to the consolation bracket. She battled back with two tech falls and a pin, then secured third place with a dominant 1:40 tech fall over Tarleton State's Ollie Weiland.
Competing at 145 pounds,
Angella Van Valkenburg earned a third-place finish for the Grizzlies. After winning her opening match by decision, she dropped her second bout and was forced to battle through the consolation bracket, responding with back-to-back pins and a tech fall. Van Valkenburg sealed third place with a 14–5 decision over Fort Hays State's Alexis Burton.
At 117 pounds, Flavia Nagatani was one of two Grizzlies to earn a fifth-place finish, securing her spot on the podium with three tech falls throughout the day.
Dakota Hull also claimed fifth at 138 pounds, powering through the bracket with four wins by fall to land on the podium.
The Grizzlies' lone sixth-place finisher was Mckenna Hendrickson at 131 pounds. She opened her day with a tech fall and a pin before dropping her final three bouts to close out the tournament in sixth.
Adams State will head to Naperville, Illi. next weekend to compete at the North Central College Invite.
