Peter Freeman Named Head Coach of Adams State Men's Soccer

Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State Athletic Director Katelyn Smith announced Friday that Peter Freeman will take the reins as the next head coach of the Adams State Men's Soccer program.

"I'm excited to begin this new chapter and return to my alma mater to lead the men's soccer team into the future," Freeman said. "It's an incredible opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape me into the person I am today. I'm grateful to Athletic Director Katelyn Smith and the search committee for their trust in me. My family and I are thrilled to return to the Valley!"

A Colorado native and proud Adams State alumnus, Freeman brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Grizzlies. He spent the past nine seasons at Trinidad State, where he served as head coach of both the men's and women's soccer programs from 2018 until 2023, when he transitioned to focus solely on the men's team. Prior to leading both squads, he guided the women's program for two seasons.

"I'm forever grateful to Mike Salbato for giving me the chance to lead the Trinidad State soccer programs over the past nine years," Freeman said. "It's been an honor to work alongside such an amazing athletic department and coach so many incredible student-athletes. I wish Trinidad State College nothing but success moving forward."

Freeman earned his Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and Human Performance/Physical Education from Adams State in 2014 while competing for the Grizzlies as a member of the men's soccer team. Following the completion of his playing career, he began his coaching journey as an assistant coach for Adams State, a role he held for four seasons.

Beyond the collegiate level, Freeman has remained deeply involved in youth soccer development. He served as a Camps and Academies Coach for St. Vrain FC during the summer and most recently worked as the Interim Assistant Director of Coaching for NCSC Bootleggers, now the Northern Colorado Rush. In that role, he led the U16, U17, and U18 boys' teams while assisting with the U11 girls' squad.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Peter back home," Smith said. "As a proud Grizzly alumnus, he understands what it takes to compete in this conference and represent the program with pride. His passion, experience, and love for Adams State and the Valley make the future of our men's soccer program incredibly bright."

Freeman and his wife, Bry Aiken, are proud parents to their 10-month-old daughter, Isla.
