Grizzlies Chase Season Best Performances at Western

Gunnison, Colo. – A contingent of the Adams State track & field team competed on Saturday afternoon at the Last Chance RMAC Qualifier, hosted by Western Colorado University. The Grizzlies fought hard in their pursuit of achieving season best performances and improving their conference standings.

Landon Baker got the Grizzlies started with a 3rd place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.38m. Evan Tapia achieved a season best time of 22.91 in the 200m, placing 5th. He then returned in the 400m, placing 5th in a time of 52.02. Gavin Heyneman placed 2nd in the 400m in a season best time of 50.57.

Devin Provence came out in style in his Grizzly track & field debut, winning the 3000m in a time of 8:52.94. Freshmen Chase Gossett and Keegan Geldean were 2nd and 3rd across the line with times of 9:07.24 and 9:08.52. Micah Swann and Kien Cogley rounded out the top 5 with times of 9:09.29 and 9:24.63.

Isila Apkup had a great day in the sprints. She started off by winning the 60m in a season best of 7.61. She then picked up another win and season best in the 200m, running a time of 25.03. These marks improve her conference rankings to 5th in the 60m and 4th in the 200m.

Grizzly freshman Emma Robinson fought hard for a season best in the mile, running 5:28.43 for 4th place. Not far behind was Addison Eyre, finishing 6th with a time of 5:37.97. Jazmin Estrada and Olivia Coulston were the sole competitors in the 5000m. Despite the lack of competition, the two Grizzlies gave their all. Jazmin was first across the line in 18:37.95. After the conversion for track size and altitude, this time ranks her 20th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and will see her on the bubble for qualifying for the conference championship meet next weekend. Olivia was 2nd in a time of 19:54.01.

Maya Kronberg rounded out the day for the Grizzlies with a 5th place finish in the shot put. She matched her personal best with a throw of 11.50m.

The Grizzlies head back to Gunnison next Friday and Saturday to compete in the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championship.
