ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 23, 2014) – It was another convincing win for the Adams State University women's swimming and diving unit from Plachy Hall Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzlies handed the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves a 132-84 loss and improve to 4-0 in dual competitions. It's also the second win against the ThunderWolves this season--the first coming on Nov. 8 in Pueblo by a 102-84 decision.
Saturday's outing saw the Grizzlies win 13 events. The tone was set from the beginning with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay.
Erica Norton, Anne Seaholm,
Sophie Martinez, and
Jordan Shomaker teammed up for a finals time of 1:57.52 to beat the ThunderWolves by four seconds.
The next win came from
Alexis Divelbiss in the 200 yard freestyle. The redshirt freshman touched the wall in 2:00.38. Divelbiss went on to win the 50 yard breaststroke (32.30), 100 yard breaststroke (1:07.64), and served as the anchor for the 200 yard freestyle relay. In that relay, Divelbiss swam a 24.95 final leg that helped the Grizzlies claim first place in the event with a time of 1:42.77.
Marissa Mantzey was also a part of four winning events. Mantzey began with a 28.24 time in the 50 yard backstroke and followed with a narrow win over Shomaker in the 50 yard freestyle at 25.35. The sophomore went on to pace to pool in the 100 yard backstroke at 1:02.76 before ending the day as the lead on the winning 200 yard freestyle relay.
Erica Norton picked up the win in 100 yard butterfly with splits of 28.66 and 32.85 for a total time of 1:01.51. Norton was also victorious in the 50 yard butterfly (27.66) and 100 yard IM (1:04.69).
Another ASU swimmer to finish atop the leaderboard was
Melissa Lopez who took first in both the 100 yard freestyle (56.52) and 500 yard freestyle (5:32.52).
Adams State now preps for the Colorado Mesa Invite on Dec. 4-6 in Grand Junction.
