GUNNISON, Colo. (January 11, 2015) – Six pool records were established and another was tied on Saturday as the Adams State University women's swimming and diving team defeated Western State Colorado University, 141-121. It marks the 17
th consecutive dual win for the Grizzlies who improve to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) meets.
Marissa Mantzey set pool records in the 100 yard backstroke (59.74) and 50 yard freestyle (25.16). The sophomore joined teammates
Alexis Divelbiss,
Melissa Lopez, and
Jordan Shomaker as a member of the 200 yard freestyle relay team that also set a pool record in a time of 1:42.09.
Individually, Divelbiss set a new mark in the 100 yard breaststroke by touching the wall in 1:08.51 for a pool record. Preceding this effort, Divelbiss notched the day's first pool record in the 400 yard relay with
Erica Norton,
Sophie Martinez, and
Tara Grebert with a time of 4:10.17.
Norton would also highlight ASU's superb day with a pool record in the 400 yard IM (4:54.56) and tied the record in the 200 yard butterfly (2:17.19). Norton's pace in the 400 yard IM bested the second place finisher by over 14 seconds.
The Grizzlies have now defeated Western State twice this season. The first win came during the season opener on 10/11/14 in Alamosa by a final score of 122-83.
Next for ASU are the RMAC Championships on February 11-14. The four day event is hosted by Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
