ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 12th, 2015)—The Adams State University women's swimming and diving team got their season started on Saturday, October 10
th when they hosted the first meet of season at Plachy Hall. They hosted rival team, Western State University of Colorado who beat the Grizzlies 152-51.
The first event was the women's 200 yard medley relay. Swimming for the Grizzlies were
Erica Norton, Anne Seaholm,
Sophie Martinez, and
Marissa Mantzey. The Grizzlies took second with a time of 1:53.73.
Sydney Nelson and
Harley Ruiz both competed in the women's 1000 yard freestyle. Nelson took forth with a time of 12:17.33 over Ruiz who finished fifth with a time of 13:09.49.
In the women's 200 yard freestyle,
Tara Grebert and Erin Henderson placed forth and fifth respectively. Grebert finished with a time of 2:13.55, while Henderson swam a 2:14.92.
Mantzey took first for Adams State in the 50 yard freestyle with a personal best time of 24.58. Riley Ceglowski also competed for the Grizzlies in this event and finished fifth with a time of 26.89.
The women's 400 yard individual medley saw Libby Weeks take third with a time of 5:08.52 over teammate Norton, who finished only point nine seconds behind Weeks with a time of 5:08.61.
Martinez was the lone Grizzly in the 100- yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.64. Mantzey was also first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.86. This was another personal best. Grebert took fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.21.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Weeks, Seaholm, and Martinez all represented Adams State. Weeks swam a time of 2:22.53, Seaholm swam 2:27.41, and Martinez finished right behind at 2:27.80.
The thirteenth event of the day was the 500 yard freestyle with Nelson and Henderson swimming for the Grizzlies. Nelson placed forth with a time of 5:59.99, and Henderson placed fifth with a time of 6:13.83.
Seaholm and Norton swam in the 200 yard breaststroke for the Grizzlies, and finished third and forth respectively. Seaholm swam a 2:44.63, and Norton swam a time of 2:46.37.
The last event of the meet was the women's 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Henderson, Nelson, Weeks, and Grebert took forth place with a time of 1:51.56.
Adams State will take to the water again on October 23
rd and 24
th when they travel to Wayland Baptist University. Times are yet to be determined.
