S&D| Grizzlies fall in duel despite three first place finishes by Mantzey

ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 5th, 2015)—In the last home meet of the 2015 season, the Adams State University Grizzlies women's swimming team hosted a duel meet against the visiting Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The Grizzlies finished just six points behind CSU-P.

The first event of the dual was the women's 200-yard Medley Relay. Swimming for Adams State was the team of Erica Norton, Kayle Mashore, Sophie Martinez, and Marissa Mantzey. The Grizzlies took first place in the relay with a time of 1:53.02, just 1.43 seconds in front of the ThunderWolves.

In the women's 1000 yard freestyle race, Sydney Nelson, Libby Weeks, and Anne Seaholm competed for the Grizzlies. Nelson finished in second with a time of 12:25.23, Weeks took third (12:19.91), and Seaholm took fourth (12:37.99)
Erin Henderson and Harley Ruiz both swam in the women's 200 freestyle, with Henderson swimming a time of 2:16.19 for third place, and Ruiz swimming a time of 2:21.96 for fourth place.

Mantzey and Riley Ceglowski represented Adams State in the 50-yard freestyle. Mantzey swam a time of 24.81 to take first place in the race, while Ceglowski swam a time of 26.63 for third. This is Ceglowski's best time in the 50-yard freestyle so far this season, as she previously swam a 26.81 at the duel between Colorado School of Mines, Colorado Mesa University, and ASU on October 31st, 2015.

Norton also earned a first place finish, with her time of 2:20.61 in the women's 200-yard individual medley. Weeks and Martinez also swam this event finishing in third and fourth respectively. Weeks swam a 2:27.10, and Martinez finished in a time of 2:22.99.
Mashore, Ceglowski, and Seaholm swam in the women's 50-yard breaststroke. Mashore finished in second place with her time of 32.84. Ceglowski finished right behind Mashore with a time of 34.10, and Seaholm took fifth place with her time of 35.35.

The ninth event of the duel was the women's 100-yard butterfly. Norton swam a 1:02.95 and placed third, Martinez swam a time of 1:05.99 and took fourth, and Nelson took fifth with her time of 1:12.78.

Mashore chalked up the Grizzlies' third first place finish of the meet with her time of 55.95 in the women's 100-yard freestyle. This is Mashore's best time in this event, as she previously swam a 57.66 at the duel meet on October 31st, 2015. Ceglowski and Ruiz also competed in this event and finished in fifth and sixth respectively. Ceglowski finished with a time of 1:02.94, while Ruiz swam a 1:03.03.

Mantzey also took first in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.06, while teaamates Weeks (1:08.39), and Seaholm (1:09.43) finished in third and fourth respectively.

Nelson and Henderson swam for Adams State in the women's 500-yard freestyle. Nelson took second with a time of 5:59.85, and Henderson took third with her time of 6:10.36. Henderson swam a season best, as her previous time for this event was 6:13.83 in the meet against Western State on October 10th, 2015.

Mashore, Seaholm, and Weeks all swam for ASU in the women's 100-yard breaststroke, with Mashore taking second (1:11.30), Seaholm taking fourth (1:17.72), and Weeks taking fifth (1:18.58).

Mantzey continued on her streak taking first in the women's 50-yard backstroke. Mantzey swam a time of 28.08, about thirty-four seconds ahead of second place. Henderson also swam for the Grizzlies in this event, taking third with a time of 33.75.

The final event of the day was the women's 200-yard freestyle, where the team of Henderson, Ruiz, Ceglowski, and Nelson took second. Their overall time was 1:50.47.
The next time the Grizzlies will take to the pool next on January 2nd, when they travel to Arizona for the Citrus Classic.
