Dual Results
Gunnison, Colo. (Saturday, January 9th, 2016)-The Adams State University women's swim team traveled to Gunnison on Saturday to compete in a dual against rival squad, the Western State Colorado University Mountaineers. Coming into the meet, the Mountaineers were ranked 19
th in the nation. The Grizzlies were unable to fend off the Western swimmers as they fell 197-63.
The first event of the dual was the 200-yard medley relay that saw the Adams State A squad take second, and the B squad take fourth. The time for the A squad was 1:54. 85, only two seconds behind the home team Mountaineers.
Sydney Nelson competed for the Grizzlies in the 1000-yard freestyle where she finished fourth with her time of 12:06.25.
Kayle Mashore,
Erin Henderson, and
Harley Ruiz all swam in the 200-yard freestyle where they finished within one spot of each other. Mashore took fourth with a time of 2:05.64, Henderson finished in fifth with her time of 2:15.31, and Ruiz took sixth with her time of 2:24.65.
Marissa Mantzey continued on her first place streak with her time of 1:00.85 in the 100-yard backstroke. Mantzey was a full three seconds ahead of the second place time posted by Western's Hannah Meehan. Adams State's Libby Weeks also swam in this event, and finished fourth with her time of 1:09.79.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Anne Seaholm and
Riley Ceglowski finished in fourth and fifth respectively. Seaholm swam a time of 1:15.91, and Ceglowski finished in 1:18.07.
Erica Norton swam in the 200-yard butterfly where she placed third with her time of 2:25.79.
Sophie Martinez finished in 2:36.40, which saw her take fifth place, and Nelson placed sixth with her time of 2:41.21.
Mantzey placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with her time of 25.36, with Ruiz (28.67) finishing in fifth, and Ceglowksi (28.84) taking sixth.
Henderson was the top Grizzly in the women's 100-yard freestyle where she took fourth with her time of 1:01.38. Also representing Adams State in this event were Ruiz, who took fifth with a time of 1:04.55, and Ceglowski who took sixth with her time of 1:04.94.
Norton and Martinez competed in the 200-yard backstroke. Norton finished in third with her time of 2:17.87, and Martinez took fifth with her time of 2:31.20.
Mantzey, Mashore, Seaholm, and Weeks all competed for the Grizzlies in the 50-yard freestyle where Mantzey finished in second with a time of 25.46, Mashore took fourth with her time of 2:42.27, Seaholm took fifth with a time of 43.80, and Weeks finished in sixth with a time of 2:51.45.
Nelson was the lone Grizzly swimmer in the 500-yard freestyle where she finished in fourth place with a time of 5:57.82.
Norton notched a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, where her time of 1:04.05 was .85 seconds quicker than the second place time of 1:04.90 posted by the Mountaineers' Ariel Fitch. Adams State's Martinez also competed in this event where she finished in fourth place with a time of 1:05.78.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Mashore was the top Grizzly swimmer with her third place finish and time of 2:22.58. Weeks swam a time of 2:30.37 and took fifth, while Seaholm swam a time of 2:33.44 to finish in sixth.
Both of the Grizzly relay squads competed in the 200-yard freestyle race that saw Adams State finish in second place with a combined time of 1:46.49. Western State took first with a time of 1:41.49.

th, when they travel to Colorado Springs to compete at Colorado College.
