1972 NAIA and RMAC Champion (142 lbs.)
Helped lead the team, coached by his brother Gene, to NAIA National Title
Teammate of fellow Hall of Famer Chuck Jean
Served as Student Assistant Coach for 1973 National Championship Team and head coach Louie Long
1973 ASC graduate in physical education
Went on to earn master’s degree in 1979 from Colorado State
Had transferred from Iowa State, where he was a national qualifier and 2-year varsity wrestler
Also wrestled at Lamar Junior College
Member of two World Cup (1973 & 1975) Freestyle teams
Went on to coaching career at Air Academy High School
Then moved to University of Southern Colorado (CSU-Pueblo) in 1982 coaching six RMAC Championship Teams, 68 All-Americans and 11 National Champions before program was dropped after 2001 season
Now in fifth year as head coach New Mexico Highlands University
Wife of 35-plus years — Betty is a 1973 graduate
Couple has one son — Chad
