Hall of Fame
Peter has been inducted into the Adams State Hall of Fame as a member of two teams and now joins the Hall as an    accomplished individual athlete, speaking to the wealth of talent he possessed while at Adams State.

In 1993, Peter was a two-time national champion, winning titles in the 5,000 meters (indoor) and 10,000 meters (outdoor). For a time he held the school record in both events. Peter was a member of four national championship teams while at Adams State , most notably as a member of the 1992 cross country team that finished with a perfect score at the national championships. He finished second as an  individual on the perfect score team.

An eleven-time All-American and three-time RMAC    champion, Peter was also named to the RMAC All-Century Team in 2009 for men’s cross country. Post-collegiately,  Peter finished second at the 2000 US Olympic Marathon Trials and is a two-time US National Record Racing    Champion. According to Coach Vigil, Peter worked hard to promote team harmony.

Currently Peter and his wife Ronda (Leyba) live in Alamosa with their five children. Peter teaches social studies at Ortega Middle School where he is also a baseball coach. He has been an assistant cross country coach at Alamosa High School since 2005
